Get away from city noise and stress to this quiet 2 bedroom, 2 bath cabin just outside Scioto Trail State Forest. Just 1 hour 15 minutes from Columbus or 1 hour 45 minutes from Cincinnati and you can relax in the comfortable cabin with 1 double bed, 1 queen bed, a large shower in the master bath, and a tub in the hall bath. If you need another bed, you can always sleep on the comfortable couch or throw down an air mattress on the living room floor, or even pitch a tent for the kids. Eat outside at the picnic table or eat in the kitchen which includes a dishwasher, range, refrigerator, toaster, and coffee maker.

My dog loves it there, and you are welcome to bring yours, also. Sit and read on the deck and enjoy butterflies, birds, and other wildlife, then wait until the sun sets and watch thousands of stars appear. Hike up the sandstone hill behind the cabin or walk across the road to hike flatter terrain that intersects the Buckeye Trail (you can hike it for 14 miles one way and never leave the state forest!). You can hunt during hunting season in Scioto Trail State Forest, or drive a few minutes to fish in one of the park’s two stocked lakes.

For city comforts, drive to nearby Waverly to enjoy a meal at the historic Emmitt House (currently CLOSED), or eat lunch only at the Kozy Kitchen, Dakota’s Roadhouse, or Diner 23, or Lake White Club with a beautiful view over the lake. Or drive a little farther to Chillicothe for dinner and a movie or visit the outdoor historical drama Tecumseh. And if you like history, you can start from prehistoric times at the Hopewell National Historical Park, watch Tecumseh for a look at life in the 1700’s, then visit Buckeye Furnace for a look at civil war life in Ohio. Finally, finish your tour in Chillicothe (Ross County Heritage Center) to view life in a canal town in the 1900’s. But if you prefer noise and excitement the auto races are a quick drive and a Saturday night option. Click here to see the full range of nearby activities and approximate driving times from the cabin. So whether you stay a week or a weekend, you can check out nature, history, and find many other activities to occupy your time or just spend quiet time in a quiet spot.
